Introduction

The inland freshwater environment provides multiple uses to the human population and needs to be protected. 
Freshwater areas are used as settlement for human habitation, source of drinking and municipal water supply; the freshwater environment has aesthetic value and can be used for recreational, industrial as well as for agricultural purposes. 
It is a source of food rich in protein. Humans greatly depend on the freshwater resource for survival.
